Gentleman Start Your Engines

By Guest Blogger Jack Jack
(Trying to encourage Jack Jack to write over the summer!)

Three months ago, I had a Pine Wood Derby for Boy Scouts. I was the first person to get in first place out of my Den (see my video under our videos on youtube). My friend Jack got in first place for our Den though.

My car was called TJ Rocker. The TJ stands for Thomas Jefferson and the Rocker is for Rock-n-Roll. It was shiny red and had rock-n-roll stickers all over it. Dad helped me make it. He spray painted it and bought me the stickers.

He took me to the practice place before the actual derby. During practice, we saw a Sleeping Beauty car. It looked just like mine but it was pink and had Sleeping Beauty stickers on it. I thought it was funny.

I want to do it next year! The End!

The Sounds of Summer

"Parsons, shut the door!!"
"Jackson, shut the door!!"

"Mom, where is my bathing suit?"
"Mom, where is my towel?"
"Parsons, not another popsicle...it is not even 9:00!"

"Parsons, shut the door!"
"Jackson, shut the door!"

"Don't come in here wet!"
"Dry off first!"
"Mom, can we go to the pool?"
"Jackson, no water guns in the house!"

"Parsons, shut the door!"
"Jackson, shut the door!"

We heart summer!!!!

Twas the Night Before Easter

Inspired by the book: The Night Before Easter by Natasha Wing

'Twas the night before Easter, just before sunset;
Every creature was stirring while newly dyed eggs were still wet.

Our baskets were set on the table with care,
in hopes that the Easter Bunny soon would be there.

Sister and I were tucked snug in our beds,
while visions of jellybeans danced in our heads.

Then out on the lawn, the birds made such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

When what to my curious eyes should appear,
but a big fuzzy rabbit with a crook in his ear.

He walked on two legs (which I thought was quite funny);
no rabbit could do that, except of course---THE EASTER BUNNY!

He petted our cat Roo and sniffed mommy's roses,
tripped over Daddy's shovel, rake, and two hoses.

Then up to our house, in just a few hops,
he came bearing chocolates and slip-n-slides to pop*

As I sat on the stairs not making a sound,
that swift, dapper Bunny sprang in with a bound.

His soft fur was spotless from his head to his toe;
his vest was all checkered; his tie in a bow.

His eyes---how they sparkled!  His whiskers----how merry!
His tail was like cotton: his nose like a berry!

He made not a sound, but went straight to his treasure,
filled up our baskets, adding more for good measure.

Chocolates and toys and candy galore
spilled from our baskets and onto the floor!

And just when I thought the Bunny was done,
he picked out some eggs looking over each one.

He carefully hid them on bushes and slides,
in trees, on swings, and where birds like to hide.

When our cat meowed, he turned with a start,
he wiggled his nose, then went to his cart.

He sprang from our yard with a single bound,
and bounced down the street without making a sound.

I read his note as he hop-hopped away:
"Happy Easter to all--- and to all a a great day!"

*1 slip-n-slide was harmed in this story...lasted exactly 5 hours..never saw summer days!

Spring Back..I Mean Break!

Here is a little something from the post vault....it has been a draft for a while due to me slacking on importing pics. Now that it is summer, I made a promise to myself and some of my peeps that I would try to blog more often...this is a start!

Original Post Date (April 23rd)
Spring Break for Jack Jack took forever to get here. It was not only a much needed break from school for him but it also marked his 7th birthday, Grandma's yearly visit, and Easter. But in true Harper luck form my Spring Break didn't coincide with his so we each had to take a day off and celebrate in our own special way.

Tuesday April 19th
My mom took Tuesday and they had a blast at one of Jack Jack's favorite Colatown places...Frankie's Fun Park. He got to ride the go carts, play video games, and soak Granna on the bumper boats. She also took him to a really "cool" comic book store.

Wednesday April 20th
I took Wednesday off and we headed to the zoo with our neighbors. I think all of Columbia had the same idea, because it was packed! But we made the most of it. We watched the gorillas get fed, rode the train (which the older kids thought they were too cool to do), and rode the merry-go-round. Jack Jack's favorite thing to do at the zoo is to climb the palm tree and rock climbing wall.

Thursday April 21st (Happy Birthday Jack Jack!)
Martin was the luckiest of us all and was off on Thursday, Jack Jack's actual birthday! I was really jealous and upset to say the least. It just wasn't right and I swore next year that I was going to save up all my days and take this very special day off! Grandma arrived extra early and was able to spend the whole day with him. They went shopping and he got to pick out anything he wanted...thanks Grandma for the second Christmas this year! He also got to enjoy his favorite restaurant Miyabi's and an ice cream cake from Coldstone Cremery...red velvet cake with cake batter ice cream?!

Friday April 22nd (Good Friday)
And oh was it good!! Friday consisted of more shopping for both Jack Jack and P..this time it was for Easter stuff. The little rats made out like bandits as usual. I enjoyed a great lunch at DiPrato's with Grandma, Aunt Barb, and Daddy. It was a great week!
